Considerations for Sterile Formulation

There are a variety of key factors compounders must consider when designing sterile formulations. Given the complex nature of sterile formulations, it is essential for compounders to be able to identify these factors and understand how to adjust them. In this presentation, we will identify factors that impact safety and compatibility of sterile formulations, we will review calculations necessary for sterile formulation, and we will discuss required tests for extended beyond use dating of sterile formulations per USP <797>. Learning Objectives: Discuss factors to consider when designing a sterile formulation (focus on ophthalmic, SC, IM, and IV) Identify factors that may impact safety or compatibility of a sterile formulation Discuss calculations necessary for sterile formulation Describe required testing for extended beyond use dating per USP <797> Accreditation Statement: American College of Apothecaries, Inc. is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.
